A look back on lockdown - partnering with the Stephen Joseph Theatre

The lockdown of 2020 and 2021 has presented new challenges to every facet of public life, and one sector that found itself facing heavy challenges was theatre. The cast and crew of the Stephen Joseph Theatre understood the necessity of social distancing in order to protect their guests and each other; however, as the saying goes, the show must go on.

With the help of Askew Brook, SJT began putting their performances up online. First was the two-person radio play Anno Domino, which was adapted from the stage by its writer and director Alan Ayckbourn, and whose sharp comedy delighted critics in the UK and the United States - as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal reported. Second was SJT’s Christmas production, a one-woman performance of The Snow Queen, which was available for online viewing through the theatre’s website through January 31. Coming up next month, time-travel romance The Girl Next Door, available from 1-19 September.

These performances and more are available for viewing from the Stephen Joseph Theatre website, bringing much-needed art, entertainment, and community back to a world in isolation.
