I know everyone and their dog are emailing about their working from home arrangement and I know you don't want another but this will hopefully be a different slant on it for you. Because we're a technology company this comes a little bit easier to us so I thought I'd share how we're doing this (it's really simple).
So, we code and as a result all our work is in the cloud anyway, we all work on the same files all the time so we have a way of doing that without doing the whole awesomecodev1.doc.
We are in constant communication using something called Telegram, it's free, it's like WhatsApp but better. If you don't want that there are others like Slack.
We're going to have a daily five minute video conference call using Skype.
We use a platform called Trello to manage who is working on what and when. You can set it up how you like but in our version each person has a column and they colour it tell us what they’re working on or if there’s a problem.
In terms of collaboration we live in Google Docs which allows us again to share files, track changes and work together on documents in real time. Similarly for design we use Adobe XD but that's maybe overkill for you.
Phone calls that normally come into the office are being diverted to directors. We use a platform called Dial9.
Now the team.
Please, if your team can work from home, let them. Far too many people are still in the office.
Mental health is hugely important, this is why we're using Telegram and constantly talking. Don't make people work 9-5, let them do what feels right.
We're paying a working from home allowance, this is a set rate by the government and doesn't come with tax headaches. Heating homes and powering computers costs money.
All this focus on work is understandably worrying, but try and put it into perspective. The impact of this personally is potentially far greater on your families for the next fifty years than these next few months.
Look after each other, be fair.
