Discover Yorkshire Coast - Design and direction

Project update: As of October 2016 this version of the site is no longer live. We've left this here for posterity, we're very happy what we achieved on this project.

DiscoverYorkshireCoast.com is a very popular and important website for both Scarborough Borough Council and for tourism businesses up and down the coast. We wrote a blog post about our thoughts at the beginning of the project to give a bit of background.

After the stakeholder sessions we have spent a lot of time working with the council to understand what their market currently is and how they would like it to develop over the years. We produced a series of designs that presented the whole area in an exciting and up-to-date fashion. We wanted to move away from the tired and obvious seaside resort branding, still keeping the essence of why the yorkshire coast has remained popular throughout the years but unlocking and showcasing all of the other reasons to come to the area.

As a result of this we went through a process of organising the data and user flow through the website. We used a series of categories to help people find what was relevant to them and updated the search process for accommodation, attractions and events to make finding records easier.

We finished by building a series of responsive web pages that were to be used by the CMS developers to populate the website. We worked closely with them until delivery and beyond.

We used our extended network of partners to help deliver the copy and much of the photography for the site. The research that went into this project was in-depth and a full case study is here.
