A Drupal-based microsite integrating with external systems, delivering structured content and functionality within an existing digital ecosystem.

Context

A microsite built to work inside one of the UK's most complex cultural digital environments.

The National Theatre operates a significant digital estate, with multiple systems supporting content, events, hiring, and audience interaction across a major publicly-funded organisation.

The project required delivering a jobs board microsite built on Drupal that could integrate with the theatre's existing hiring platform while matching the look, feel, and conventions of the main National Theatre site.

Working within an established ecosystem meant technical consistency and platform alignment were as important as the functionality itself. The microsite needed to feel like a natural part of the wider infrastructure, not a disconnected addition.

The challenge

Delivering within a defined Drupal environment while integrating reliably with external systems.

Working within an established Drupal ecosystem with accepted platforms, conventions, and visual standards.

Integrating with an external hiring platform so vacancy data could flow into the microsite from the existing system.

Maintaining consistency with the main National Theatre site in both design and technical approach.

Delivering structured content within defined constraints without creating maintenance overhead.

Ensuring the solution remained reliable and performant within a high-profile, publicly-facing environment.

Supporting internal HR teams managing vacancy listings and content updates without technical dependency.

What we built

A Drupal jobs board microsite with external API integration, built to fit an existing digital ecosystem.

Drupal microsite

A jobs board was built on Drupal to align with the National Theatre's existing platform choice and digital conventions.

Hiring platform integration

The microsite integrates with the theatre's external hiring system so current vacancies are pulled and presented automatically.

Structured content model

Vacancy listings, job details, and supporting content are handled through a structured model that supports consistent presentation.

Visual consistency

The microsite matches the look and feel of the main National Theatre site so the experience is coherent for users moving between the two.

Template and component structure

Reusable templates and components support ongoing content management without requiring development involvement for routine updates.

System-aligned architecture

The build was designed to work within the wider digital estate rather than operating as a standalone, disconnected system.

System flow

A direct path from content creation through to integrated, audience-facing delivery.

  1. Content created
  2. Structured in CMS
  3. Integrated with external data
  4. Rendered via microsite
  5. Used by audiences
