Its been six months since Askew Brook deployed a bespoke production management system into the EYJ Ltd facility so we thought we’d catch up with their director, Joe Porter, to see what impact it has made and what lessons he has learnt.
The production management system allows every member of the team, from the office to the shop floor to those in QA, to know the status of any project in real-time - and crucially, what is coming up next. Joe says, “Implementing the system has easily made us 30% more efficient. Bottlenecks and potential delays are picked up much sooner, as the entire company can see the bigger picture. Our team is remarkably knowledgeable and their skill-set goes beyond operation machinery; we need to unlock their years of experience to benefit the company as a whole and this certainly helps.”
Implementing the system has made an impact on the bottom-line too, Joe goes on to say. “We had an initial capital outlay to purchase screens and tablets, but prior to developing and installing the system, our print costs were through the roof. This has been virtually eliminated, as all the plans and documentation are now stored in the cloud.”
Joe continued, “It’s been a really exciting project and we’ve got loads of ideas about where to take it next. We’ve already used it to achieve regulatory certifications, as we now have a full audit log of every project we work on, and we’re going to extend it to cover stock management and quoting. We can’t wait to see where it takes us next.”
